THREE restaurants and eateries across Scotland have been named among the best places to get brunch in the UK by top chefs.

The list, which looked at eating spots perfect for a "long and lazy weekend",  named locations all across Scotland and the UK.

The Times newspaper said: "No long and lazy weekend is complete without brunch. Everything about it is laid-back, from the loose timings (anything from early morning to mid-afternoon) to the eclectic menu.

"Sweet American-style pancakes? Yes please! Classic full English? Why not?! This selection of favourite brunch destinations from some of the UK’s leading chefs includes an Indian-influenced menu in Bath and an Australian-style one in Belfast."

Café Cùil in Carbost on the Isle of Skye was ranked number nine on the list with chef Calum Montgomery praising it for its "super-relaxed atmosphere" and "tasty plates".

He told The Times: “There’s a super-relaxed atmosphere here, with tasty plates of food from someone that really cares."

The chef-owner of Edinbane Lodge on Skye added: “I’ll go with anyone and everyone, on my own or as a brigade. We’ve seen specials that owner Clare Coghill has put up on Instagram and escaped for an hour for a team brunch. The last time I was there I had the lobster brioche roll with a dipping bisque sauce — it was banging."

Papii in Scotland's capital was ranked number 21 on the list with Stuart Ralston, chef-patron of Aizle in Edinburgh, saying: “Papii is an upstairs, small place but they do a good selection of brunchy stuff.

"They specialise in homemade buttermilk waffles so my kids like to go there — and my wife is American so she likes all that kind of thing too."

Chef-patron of Celentano’s, Dean Parker, also heaped praise on Outlier in Glasgow, telling the publication: "Outlier has such a nice bustly atmosphere."

He added: “Anna, my wife, and I always share their toasted sourdough with egg, chilli oil and oyster mushroom, and their apple cider vinegar muffins with whatever seasonal veg topping they do.

"Pastries are always fresh and taste amazing, including croissants and banana bread, and their coffee from local roastery the Good Coffee Cartel is lovely.

"If we are both off on a Sunday we take our son, Fred, and we always take friends there when they come to visit. We also try to get the team some pastries from there on a Sunday pre-service if we have time after a busy week.”
