ALLAN MILNE said it was a “tale of two halves” as Alloa Women stormed to an 8-1 victory over Central Girls.

The Wasps added to their already impressive goal difference to retain their place at the top of the table, as some of their newer signings got on the score sheet.

Suzie McTaggart grabbed five on Sunday, Shannon Mulligan bagged a brace and Cameron Fairgrieve got one of her own, while the hosts scored a solitary consolation goal.

In the opening half, Central Girls would open the scoring but Alloa were quick to respond, McTaggart scoring four to put the Wasps well in front.

Fairgrieve scored Alloa’s first before half time, scoring direct from the corner to give Alloa a four-goal cushion at the break.

Despite the heavy scoreline, Milne was left wanting more from his side, insisting that the first half was not up to the expectations they have set.

“It was a tale of two halves,” Milne said. “First half, I was delighted to be 5-1 up at half time but I was very unhappy with our performance levels.

“Especially off the ball, I was disappointed with our intensity, our levels of pressing, our tempo to the game was very slow and lethargic.

“There were other things that we did really well and we touched on in half time that when we were down to 13 players, everybody was working hard and fighting for each other.

“It’s almost as if because we have a bigger group of players now, we’re not as fighting for each other as much.

“We had that discussion with them at half time.”

Coming out the break, the Wasps upped their game and punished the opposition with three more goals – another for McTaggart and a double for Mulligan.

The second half was much more pleasing for Milne and his staff, with the manager telling Advertiser Sport it was a marked improvement.

“It was night and day,” Milne continued. “They were unbelievable, they were on the front foot, they were pressing and putting the team under a lot more pressure.

“Could we have scored a few more goals? 100 per cent. But I was delighted to score another three after half time.

“We controlled the game, our ball retention was very good and we were moving it from left to right.

“It was good to see a couple of players who are just in the door start to find their feet a bit more.”
