ALLOA RFC produced a thumping performance to progress in the Caledonia Midlands Bowl, knocking out Rosyth Sharks by an impressive 92-21 scoreline.

Despite the result, the Fife lower-league side got off to the better start, testing Alloa’s defence which remained firm.

Alloa captain Martin McKenzie got the hosts’ first try of the afternoon, picking up a loose pass and charging forward the full length of the pitch.

Nerves were settled after that, with Cammy Nimmo scoring from under the posts which was followed by Rab McCran outpacing his opponent on the wing.

Lee Cairney remained ever-reliable to convert all of the scores and Alloa found themselves 21-0 up inside just 15 minutes.

Jamie Cruickshank was next to get in on the action, adding three tries in a short space of time, and he would go on to add a fourth later on.

Tries number seven and eight were notched away by Daniel McGookin and Dale Foster before Joe Viggers spotted a gap in the away defence to grab an excellent individual score.

By half time, Alloa had outclassed Rosyth Sharks and stood with an impressive 68-0 lead at the break.

With the game well won, the coaching staff made five changes at half time – Daniel McGookin added to his first half score and sub McKenzie added the extras.

The Sharks did bounce back, however, taking full of advantage of a yellow card to Michael Doig to score their first try.

Cruickshank and McCran added more tries as did Robbie Truesdale, carrying on his blistering form since joining the side.

Two late Rosyth tries reduced the gap between the two sides, but in the end Alloa ran out comfortable winners in the cup clash.

Alloa now have a week off before facing Crieff and Strathearn on Saturday, November 23.
