ALLOA Women have been withdrawn from the Regional League Cup after fielding an ineligible player.

The Wasps have been sanctioned by the Scottish Women's Football League Management Committee after it was found a player was ineligible to play in the fixture, originally held on Sunday, October 20.

Alloa beat Clydebank 3-0 to progress in the cup competition and were all set to play Edinburgh South in the next round on November 17.

However, the LMC have now published a statement confirming sanctions on the club.

A spokesperson for the SWFL LMC said: "The SWFL League Management Committee has charged Alloa Athletic for fielding an ineligible player in their Regional League Cup match against Clydebank on October 20, 2024.

"As a result, the club will face sanctions as imposed by the LMC, and the fixture will be awarded as a 3-0 victory for Clydebank.

"The result means Clydebank will take Alloa's place in the next round against Edinburgh South on November 17.

"Alloa Athletic have a right to appeal the decision."

Alloa have started the season strongly, recording only one defeat so far, excluding this decision.

The club were quick to respond to the SWFL's decision, insisting they feel they have followed the rules accordingly.

A spokesperson for the club said: "We are disappointed by the League Management Committee's (LMC) decision.

"As a club, we feel we provided valid reasoning and evidence regarding the circumstances.

"We will now take some time to decide whether to appeal the decision or not. We are disappointed for our players first and foremost for all their hard work.

"We will provide an update in due course."
