ROBBIE TRUESDALE scored his first try on his home debut, with Alloa beating Glenrothes  40-24.

Glenrothes and Alloa have been historic rivals in rugby, with the hosts boosted by the returns of Marc Murray and Joe Viggers.

The visitors took a deserved lead after finding gaps in the hosts’ defence to go ahead via a penalty goal.

Alloa built up some cohesion and started to play some good rugby, but their chances were thwarted by a resolute Glenrothes defence.

The home team’s scrum was a particular highlight of the day, with Alloa dominant in that regard all afternoon, allowing Gary Taylor to burst through the Glens’ defence and play in Jamie Cruickshank with a well-timed pass.

Lee Cairney struck the upright with the conversion, but made up for it with immaculate kicking for the remainder of the match, going onto score more than five conversions from all angles.

Alloa’s next try came from a beautifully timed pass by Dale Foster that sent Cammy Nimmo through a gap.

The young back row found Viggers on his shoulder to finish the job, while Callum McCallister would slot past for the third try.

Alloa went into the break ahead by 19-3 and had the luxury of making a few changes from a very strong bench.

Cruikshank came out the break flying and notched the bonus try, but the biggest cheers would come from the fifth try.

Dale Foster straightened the line, with Robbie Truesdale sprinting clear to score a try on his home debut, leading to an erupting round of applause from the crowd.

Cruikshank grabbed his hat trick and picked up the Friends of Alloa Man of the Match award, while Alloa kept Glenrothes at bay while they tried to pick up more points.

Alloa only have two fixtures over the next five weeks, with their next tie coming against Rosyth Sharks in the Midland Bowl on November 9.
