ALLOA WOMEN booked a spot in the next round of the Scottish Power Regional League Cup following a 4-1 job over Clydebank.
The Wasps looked to carry on their run in the cup and were playing with confidence following their demolition job over Carron Huskies the week before.
Alloa lost an early goal to Clydebank, falling victim to a long ball over the top which bounced on the artificial surface and landed nicely for the visitors’ striker to poke into the net.
Despite the setback, Alloa bounced back and notched four goals over their opponents, in a game manager Allan Milne insists they were in complete control of.
“Pleased to get the win and get into the next round,” Milne said. “This was a game that we were in complete control of.
“We lost a silly goal with a long ball, it bounced on the surface, player ran through and scored.
“But after that, we took complete control of the game and got ourselves back into it. We made a few tweaks at half time to address some of the things we were doing, our composure and stuff like that.
“We came out the second half and they were unplayable. I don’t think the other team got out of their own half.
“It’s another process of us improving and getting better and better and moving forward.”
A staple of Milne’s time at the club and in particular this season has been instilling a mentality in the team so that they do not fall apart during setbacks.
The early goal gave Alloa a hill to climb in the Clydebank tie, but the Women responded well to it with goals coming from Lily Caldwell and Suzanne Wyatt.
Milne went on: “One of the things this season that I’ve spoken a lot about is their mentality and character.
“It’s one of the things I’m most pleased with in this group. They never stop and they never say die, they keep going on and pushing through.
“We’ve got players in the group who are real winners and keep carrying the girls forward and pushing on.
“We were pleased to get the goals quickly and in the second half, we could just take complete dominance over the game and go and finish off with more goals which was really pleasing.”
Next up for Alloa Women is an away trip to Bayside Women in the league. The Wasps last met Bayside in the League Cup group stage, a 3-2 win for Alloa.
