Cambusdoon 6 Alloa Athletic Women 4

THE boss of Alloa's women's team said they will bounce back and vowed not to let this Scottish Cup defeat define their season.

The Wasps women exited the competition after throwing away a three-goal lead with only 25 minutes to play.

The turnaround brought an end to a five-game unbeaten streak, and this season’s cup ambitions.

Manager Allan Milne said: “We started the game very well and 20 minutes in we were 2-0 up. Then I think missing a penalty at 3-0 gave them a bit of belief that there was still something in it for them.

“In the second half we made a lot of individual errors, and the other side had a real tenacity about them to just keep going. It’s disappointing to end that unbeaten run, but hopefully we can keep the streak going in the league.

“We either let this define our season, or we use it as a catapult to go and bounce back. The girls have a lot of resilience about them and I’m sure that they’ll take all three points on Sunday.”

Lack of substitutes undoubtedly affected the girls second half performance. Mr Milne said: “They had a lot more fresh legs on them because we had a couple missing through injury or work.

“Later on, when the legs are getting tired and people are losing concentration it’s good to have that fresh energy to bring on.

“When you have five or six missing through various things like work and holidays it can be hard, and for the past three weeks now we’ve been down to about 13 players.

“Saying that, for the past three weeks the girls have been brilliant at grinding out results.

“I reiterated after the game and at training that everybody should try and be there for the games as much as possible.”
