PJ MORRISON was brimming with confidence as he kept his sixth clean sheet of the season against Kelty Hearts.

The shot stopper had some important saves to make against Kelty’s attacking line and was quick off his line to catch any dangerous balls into the box.

Morrison has been one of Alloa’s best players this season, keeping clean sheets against East Fife, Queen of the South, Stenhousemuir, Arbroath, Annan and now Kelty.

Part of the keeper’s development this season has been down to Neil Parry, who came back to the club as a goalkeeper coach.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport after the Kelty game, Morrison hailed his team for their role in Alloa’s sturdy defensive performances.

“It’s been good since I’ve been back,” Morrison said. “Neily has come in and the training has been really good.

“I’m feeling really good and really confident and it only helps when I’ve got the boys right in front of me.

“It’s not just me, it’s not just the back four, it’s everybody pulling their weight so obviously on paper, it’s all my plaudits but it’s the 11 boys out there as well so I definitely have to credit them for the clean sheets.”

Morrison was called into action several times against Kelty but was never truly tested – Morgyn Neill and David McKay did exceptionally well to stop any long balls from the visitors.

Alloa’s defensive performances have been highlights of the season so far, with the management team of Andy Graham and Parry only helping to strengthen the back line.

“First half, we can definitely be better,” Morrison said. “Most of their chances came from our own mistakes.

“They didn’t really cut us open due to us being defensively solid which we have been since we came back.

“In the first half, we weren’t great going forward but we always keep ourselves in the game as we have done the whole season.

“Second half, we always knew that we had it in us to score a goal and big Sammo came on again and made an impact.

“It’s a positive result but we know we can play better.”

Alloa now sit top of the table and have extended their lead in pole position by one point ahead of Montrose.

Graham’s side travel north to take on Montrose this week – but failed to get the better of the Mo in four meetings last season.

While results are going positively and the league position is to be celebrated, Morrison downplayed getting carried away and reiterated Graham’s mantra of “one game at a time.”

“It’s important not to get carried away,” Morrison said. “The gaffer reiterates all the time that we need to take it one game at a time.

“As soon as we got in there, he spoke to us about the game but now it’s all about next week.

“It’s too early in the season to be talking about league tables and right now it’s all about Montrose next week”.
