ALLAN MILNE wants his Alloa Women’s team to help inspire the next generation of female footballers across Clackmannanshire.
The women’s boss gave a rousing speech during the Alloa Athletic season ticket holder Q&A session last week, wherein he outlined his short term and long term aims for the club.
He spoke of wanting to attract more local support to the women’s team and set his sights on progressing through the leagues.
Milne said: “I came in in February to head up the women’s team and the women’s department. When I first came in, it was just about settling in and finding out what we’ve got in the squad.
“In this season so far, we’ve brought in a lot of experience from leagues above to help us progress and push up through the leagues as much as possible.
“We’ve started the league two unbeaten in the League Cup but our vision between myself and the rest of the coaching team is we want to make Alloa Women’s team one of the most successful in the area.
“What I mean by that is within four leagues, we can be in the SWPL1, the top flight of women’s football.
“For us to keep attracting the best players to come and play for Alloa, we need support from guys like yourselves sitting here.”
Arriving in February, Milne brought with him a range of experience in both the men’s and women’s game.
So far, the women’s team has a steady support who attend their home games, held on Sunday afternoons at the Indodrill.
By drawing in more support, the gaffer aims to inspire young girls across Clacks and Forth Valley to take up football with Alloa.
“The girls do this on their spare time,” Milne added. “They don’t get paid or anything, they’re working hard and getting to play here is fantastic for them.
“We want to make Sunday more of a community day -kids come down, families come down and we have more stuff going on around the stadium for you to welcome you to the ground.
“Ideally, we want to have young girls around this area looking at the team and thinking we’ve got one of the best women’s teams in the area.
“We want them thinking they don’t want to go to Hearts or Hibs, they want to come here and we can try to inspire the next generation of young girls.
“To get the support from you guys would be amazing, just to let the girls know that they’re part of the club and the community as much as possible.”
The Alloa Athletic Women’s Team play on Sunday afternoons, fixture dependant. More information on the team can be found on X or on Facebook.
