KEVIN CAWLEY is relishing his start to the season, which has seen him notch four goals in 10 games.

The Alloa stalwart got himself on the scoresheet twice during his side’s victory over Partick Thistle in the SPFL Trust Trophy.

These were his third and fourth goals of the season, with the 35-year-old looking back on a difficult year.

Cawley didn’t feature as heavily as expected last season, scoring just twice – owing to a career change and starting a family.

Now, Cawley has explained he has found a good rhythm and is now able to keep firing for Alloa.

He said: “It’s just about getting the balance and I keep myself relatively fit and try to get as much sleep as I can.

“Once I got into a routine, we’ve now got the rewards from working hard and with the way I’ve started the season.

“I’ve not started a season like that in a while – I’m feeling good, playing regularly which is the main thing.”

Cawley has been primarily used as a left winger in Andy Graham’s formation, which has seen him find the back of the next four times since July.

He has cemented himself as a starter again this season, while also being capable of playing across the full attacking line if needed.

“I got a good pre-season in me,” Cawley went on. “I’ve been playing and I feel sharp.

“Over the last few seasons, my hip has hampered me a little bit but this has been the most sharp I’ve felt and that comes from playing regularly.

“I’ve been getting 90 minutes and I’ve been enjoying it but now my baby has settled into the house, I’m in more of a routine.

“I appreciate it a bit more as well, I’m getting older, I’m 35 now and I don’t know how many years I’ve got left.

“I’m enjoying my football right now.”

In addition to racking up the goals, Cawley also explained that he has struck up a good relationship with Calum Waters.

The pair knew each other from Waters’ first spell at the club and have now reignited a working partnership that is proving fruitful this season so far.

“I’m always the attacking midfielder and I’ve played with the gaffer for around eight or nine years now.

“He knows I can play anywhere across the front and I’ve settled in there this season and I’ve built up a good relationship with Calum Waters.

“We’ve got a great togetherness in the squad at the moment and that was the best and most complete performance we’ve played in a good time.

“We created good chances and even in the build up to the goals, the play was brilliant and that’s good to get two goals.”
