ALLOA made it two in two in the League Cup with a 2-1 win over Linlithgow Rose on Sunday.

The Wasps had a weekend off last week, allowing them to better prepare for the visit to West Lothian.

Conditions were not favourable, with a strong wind and torrential rain hindering both teams from playing how they usually would.

Alloa started strongly, creating some good chances in the opening stages but were unable to test the Rose keeper too much.

The Hosts struck first inside just five minutes, a good cross delivered in met the Rose player who fired it into the top of the net.

Ultimately, Alloa kept battering the Rose goal and got their due rewards, with Bailey Black meeting a very good delivery to slot home an equaliser before half time.

Alloa came out the break by far the better team, menacing the Rose goal and looking to be on top.

The Wasps were sent down to 10 players after Kayley Robinson received a red card, given her marching orders from the referee.

Despite this, Alloa banded together and refused to crumble, going onto win the match after Rihanna McMinimee won a 1-1 with the Rose keeper to slot home the winner.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport after the game, Milne was happy with the points despite it not being a vintage showing from the Wasps.

“It was a weird game,” Milne said. “It probably wasn’t our best performance if I’m being honest.

“We’ve played a lot better over the last couple of weeks and we had a few moments of madness today.

“We didn’t play football the way we usually do or move the ball about the way we usually would but I need to be happy with the points.

“We got the win and we stuck it out even when going down to 10 players and we managed to go and win the game.

“When we went down to 10 players, I actually thought we were a wee bit better in terms of how much they fought for it and that’s credit to them, you can’t fault them for that.

“We got the points and that’s the main thing.”

Despite the overall performance slightly lacking, Alloa created plenty of chances that, on a different day, could have put them two or three to the good much earlier than they did.

Conditions played their part, with the rain lashing down onto the players’ faces as they faced goal,

Despite this, the chances created were definitely a positive talking point, with just decision making going against Alloa’s favour on Sunday.

Milne went on: “Our decision making in the final third was a little bit lacking – we made the wrong choice or the wrong decision but that happens.

“On days like this, we just had to work harder and do the dirty stuff and up our work rate, hunger and desire and just keep going.

“We did well to get back in the game during the second half and after we got our goal, we didn’t look to be really threatened after that.

“We managed the game in the right manner which was good for us.”

The win on Sunday now makes two out of two for Alloa in the League Cup, following a hard-fought victory over Cumbernauld United earlier in August.

Now, the Women have another week off as they prepare for their entry into this year’s Scottish Cup.

The Wasps have been drawn away to Murieston, with the tie set to go ahead on Sunday, September 8.

“They can take confidence from that,” Milne continued. “They’ve won two in two and it’s been two very different tests.

“We can now try and keep moving on and they can learn from this test and if we came up against a team like this again, we know how to deal with it.”
