DOLLAR Tennis Club threw open its doors to kids from around the country for a three-day tennis festival.

To mark the end of the summer holidays, it held its very own Dollar Junior Open from Sunday, August 11 to Tuesday, August 13.

Hosting more than 60 kids across various age groups, the junior competition battled the weather but ensured the fun festival went ahead.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Dollar coach Emma Howat said: “We had a lot of tennis players from our area but we also had people travelling from as far as Inverness and Aberdeen.

“All of them were coming to Dollar to play which was really awesome.

“We also had loads of Dollar kids playing and for a lot of them, this was their first tournament.

“The weather across the three days was bearable – Sunday was beautiful but the Monday we had thunderstorms.

“Luckily the rain drained away and we managed to get out on the courts.

“Club volunteers donated equipment and provided coffees and teas for the parents to have while the kids were playing.”

She added: “Lots and lots of tennis was played – around 140 matches with 65 different players.”

Making use of Dollar Academy’s set of outdoor courts, the tournament featured kids in the under 8 section all the way to 12, playing in a range of games tailored to their ability.

Emma added: “Overall, it was a really good event and it was appreciated by the parents who were telling us we had such a lovely club with the hills in the background.

“It was really nice to put Dollar Tennis Club on the map in terms of the tennis competition community.

“It was really well attended and everyone seemed to enjoy it, got loads of positive feedback as well which was great.”
