TERI-LOUISE DEEGAN got her Alloa career off to a flying start as she scored the winner in Alloa’s opening League Cup group stage fixture.

The Wasps hosted Cumbernauld United Women for their first competitive game of the season, beating them 3-2 at the Recs.

Goals from a new signing yet to be revealed, talisman Rihanna McMinimee and Deegan sealed victory for Alloa in the dying minutes.

“It was good to get back to competitive games,” Allan Milne said. “It was good to come away with the win too.

“Cumbernauld were new to the SWF system so it was an unknown test for us and we didn’t really know what we were coming up against.

“To get the win was brilliant and this is something that we can build on for the rest of the cup group and then get ready for the league.”

This will be Milne’s first full season in charge of the Wasps, off to a flying start with three points in the League Cup on the board already.

Pre-season was a mixed bag for Alloa, but the manager remained satisfied with their performances, which continued into the League Cup.

He continued: “It was good to get three points on the group table and that stands us in good stead for the rest of the games coming up.

“The girls were brilliant yesterday, had some really good spells of play – we were brilliant in the first 20 minutes then fell out it a bit.

“It picked up again in the second half and controlled the game more, we got our second goal as well.

“A few lapses of concentration for their second goal and they got back into it but we showed great levels of fight and determination to get our winner.”

The game looked set to be finishing 2-2, until Alloa were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute, which Deegan slotted away with ease.

Alloa now look ahead to their trip to Bayside Women this Sunday, before taking on Linlithgow Rose away from home.

Lastly, their final League Cup group game will pit them against Dunfermline, managed by former Alloa manager Charles Dignan.
