ALLOA WOMEN ended their pre-season with a 2-0 defeat at home to Huntly, with the manager now setting his sights to the League Cup campaign.

The club concluded a pre-season friendly campaign at the Indodrill, during which Allan Milne had been bringing in new players to fill out the group.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, Milne reflected on pre-season and shared his excitement at starting the League Cup.

“I’m excited to start the League Cup,” Milne said. “I’m excited to get back to being more focused on competitive games.

“The friendlies were important to get minutes in the legs and get players back to match sharpness.

“We’d have preferred a few more positive results but over the course of the piece, we’re happy and I think the squad are happy as well with it at the moment.”

The Wasps have been drawn in a group with Cumbernauld United, Bayside Women, Linlithgow Rose and Dunfermline.

Fixtures kick off this Sunday and will carry through until September 15, with the Wasps hoping to progress from their group.

As part of their preparations, Milne added he is still looking to bring in some new players, teasing new signings of a high calibre.

“We’re still looking to add some numbers,” Milne continued. “You’ll probably see some announcements in the next week or so about new players.

“We had a trialist in goals on Sunday who played at SWL Premier and Premier 2 level so we’re just about to announce a signing of that quality in goals which will be really exciting.”

Alloa have already confirmed the signings of Teri-Louise Deegan and Aimee Lenathan to their squad.

The girls had their first chances to play for Alloa during the recent friendlies, with Milne adding they have settled in nicely to the squad.

He added: “They’ve settled in really well and got to really know the group and we’re starting to see them perform.

“Leny [Aimee Lenathan] was out with a wee injury on Sunday but she should be back for next week.

“Teri has settled in really nicely with the group at the moment.

“We’re still looking to progress with that over the next week and add in another three or four players.

“We had a few trialists in as well so, hopefully, all going well, we’ll see them back as well.”

Alloa travel to Cumbernauld United this Sunday for their first League Cup group stage game.
