ALLOA Athletic Women have confirmed three more players will be staying for next season, and have also bolstered their ranks by two.
Allan Milne started his preparations for his first full season in charge of the Wasps by snapping up as much of last year’s squad as he could.
As reported by the Advertiser, around 10 had already been confirmed to stay, while new signings had also been teased.
Now, Milne has guaranteed the signatures of Hannah Burns, Aimee Duffy and Lesley Munro and has retained their services.
“Delighted to get those three over the line,” Milne said. “Hannah came in at the tail end of the season and she’s a big character so good to have her in.
“Aimee Duffy came in at roughly Christmas time just when I took over and she’s been good as well.
“It’s good to get her signed up and ready to go.
“Lesley was a player that I brought in when I first came in – kind of fell out of love with football for a little but she’s got it back now.
“She’s been excellent since coming back in for pre-season and we’re delighted to get her signed up for the season ahead.
“I think she’s going to have a big year for us this year.”
He has also managed to add to his squad, bringing in players who have experience in playing in the leagues higher than Alloa’s level.
Milne had previously teased their inclusions and has now provided more information on the players he has brought in.
Firstly, he has signed Teri-Louise Deegan, who previously played for Livingston and Airdrie, featuring in the League One Team of the Year last season.
Milne continued: “Teri was a player I first identified and really wanted to bring in just before the season ended.
“I’d known Teri from her time at Livingston and she played against us when I was at Stenhousemuir.
“When the opportunity came up that she was available for a chat, we had it and she knew that Alloa was where she wanted to be for the next couple of years.
“She liked the project, she liked what we were doing so she’s experienced, comes with a lot of pedigree.
“She finished in the League One Team of the Year last season with Airdrie when they finished eighth, so to be in the TOTY from a bottom half team shows her character and quality.”
Additionally, he has brought Aimee Lenathen to Alloa, with the centre half providing some calmness to the back line.
Lenathen previously played for Falkirk, gaining promotion to the SWF Championship last season.
Milne added: “As soon as I knew Aimee was available after leaving Falkirk, it was basically a case of how we got the deal done.
“Aimee’s a player who will bring a real sturdiness to the back line – she’s strong, she’s physical and she’s fast on the ball.
“She’s also a leader, she’ll talk and communicate and brings all the attributes we need. We need to be a bit secure at the back and she’ll give us that robustness to allow our forward players to go and play.
“Delighted to have them both on board and hopefully we can get another couple finalised in the next few weeks.
“We’ve got more trialists coming in the door as well to hopefully get us over the line before the season starts.”
