STEFAN SCOUGALL admitted it was a dream come true as he made his 400th career appearance.
The midfielder started in Alloa’s opening League Cup group stage game against East Fife, marking the huge milestone in the progress.
He shared this occasion with Wasps captain Scott Taggart, who also made his 500th appearance in club football on Tuesday evening.
Speaking to Advertiser Sport, Scougall said: “I’m delighted to make 400 appearances in my career.
“When you start out as a young boy, you only dream of making so many appearances in professional football.
“I’m chuffed to bits and fingers crossed I’ve got a lot more to come and hopefully I can reach Taggs’ target of 500.”
Scougall spent his youth career at Hibs, moving to Dunfermline for a year before breaking through as a youngster at Livingston.
He made 84 appearances at the Almondvale before securing a big move down south to play for Sheffield United.
Featuring 100 times for the Blades, Scougall wrote his name into the history books after scoring a goal during Sheffield’s 5-3 defeat to Hull City in a memorable FA Cup semi final.
After making 10 appearances on loan to Fleetwood Town, he returned to Scotland and signed for St Johnstone.
He featured 33 times there before spending a season at Carlisle United, notching 42 appearances.
It was then that he was signed by Alloa, becoming a mainstay in the midfield since 2020 and making 131 appearances at the Recs.
Scougall continued: “Once I’m finished and retire, I’ll look back on it and see how well I’ve done and be proud of it but right now, there’s still so much that we can achieve especially here.
“That’s maybe something I’ll look for when the boots are hung up and I feel I’ve still got plenty more to give for plenty more years and hopefully I can add on to the 400 I’ve already made.”
As part of Andy Graham’s squad building for this season, Scougall was one of the first to put his name down.
This will be his fifth season for Alloa, with the midfielder looking ahead positively to what the team can achieve this year.
“I’m feeling positive,” Scougall added. “We’ve had a pretty good pre-season although tonight we weren’t really at the races.
“But we dug in and we’ll have times when we’re not at it and then it’s all about keeping a clean sheet and we did that.
“The boys that took the penalties did well to get the extra bonus point and hopefully we can kick on on Saturday, have a positive League Cup campaign and take that into the new season.”
