SCOTT TAGGART hit a personal milestone on Tuesday evening as he made his 500th career appearance.
The right back started Alloa’s opening League Cup group stage game against East Fife, hitting the half century in doing so.
Taggart has played for six clubs in his career, since he broke through as a youngster at Hibs.
He made three senior appearances for the Easter Road outfit before loan spells at Ayr and Stranraer, making eight and 31 outings respectively.
Taggart then secured a permanent move to Greenock Morton, featuring 62 times before making the short move across the Clyde to Dumbarton, notching a further 46 appearances for the Sons.
It was at this time he met future manager Andy Graham, with the two moving to Alloa at the start of the 2016 season.
Since then, he has been a mainstay in the team, becoming the captain and playing on 327 occasions for the Wasps.
Taggart said: “It’s a good milestone for myself.
“I only found out last night when my mum posted it in from Alloa Stats. It’s good to hit 500 appearances.
“I never thought as a young boy out on loan from Hibs that I would hit this but I’m delighted to hit 500 and hopefully many more to come.”
Alloa played out a goalless draw against League Two side East Fife for their League Cup opener, going on to secure a bonus point from the penalty shootout.
While far from a vintage performance, Taggart praised the Wasps for digging in and ultimately not losing the game.
“We struggled,” he continued. “The guys felt a wee bit off it.
“We were trying but it was just one of those nights that we were struggling to put together what we were planning on doing, especially in the first half.
“Second half, we had a bit of a reaction and we caused a few more problems but 0-0 was written all over it.
“We did well to dig in and for not playing that well, to get a clean sheet and then take the extra point.
“We move on to Saturday now and it means we get another 90 minutes and then into next week.
“Overall, we’re disappointed with the performance but the boys worked hard.”
Taggart was first up to take a penalty, carrying on a near flawless record from the spot.
Luke Donnelly, Conor Sammon, Kurtis Roberts and Calum Waters followed suit, guaranteeing Alloa two points out of a possible three in their opening game.
“That was the manager’s message before the penalties,” Taggart added. “Just make sure we get the bonus point.
“If their keeper goes on to make a good save, you put your hands up but the boys put all the penalties away well and we were lucky enough to get the bonus point.”
