ALLOA have made a triple signing ahead of their season commencing with the visit of East Fife tomorrow evening.
The Wasps have added a forward, a defender and a central midfielder to their ranks, following an impressive pre-season for the trio.
Firstly, promoted from the academy is Reece Mullen, who fans may recognise from appearing on the bench several days during last season.
Mullen, who plays in central midfield, has been a standout performer for Alloa during pre-season, drawing plaudits for his performance during the friendly against Greenock Morton.
The youngster served a short but successful loan spell last season to Camelon Juniors and has now been handed his firstt professional contract by Andy Graham.
Speaking to the Advertiser, Gaham was full of praise for Mullen’s development and looked forward to seeing him progress.
“Reece has come in and he’s been excellent,” Graham said. “He’s been nothing short of fantastic with his attitude he’s shown.
“At Cappielow against Morton, I thought he didn’t look out of place at all, he was probably the best midfielder on the park in the first half.
“It was great for him to go out and express himself because I’ve seen it training, he’s been training since November so we’ve always known that he’s got ability.
“That area of the pitch for us is a particularly strong one but you never know in football what could happen.
“Reece has certainly stood up to the plate and he’s come in, not looked out of place at all and it’s now just a case of building on that.
“He’s got himself in about the first team but he now has to kick on and he’s good to go on and do that.”
Elsewhere on the park, Alloa have added Shay Nevans and Kane Thomson to their personnell from Motherwell and Queen’s Park, respectively.
The two youngsters caught Andy Graham’s eye during the open trials session, wherein the manager invited them to train with the squad.
Nevans, who has primarily played on the left wing during pre-season but has also played up top, has been an exciting outlet on the left side for Alloa.
Thomson, a right back, had an impressive turn against Falkirk and Cumbernauld Colts, winning the penalty which led to Alloa’s third goal.
He also assisted Luke Rankin’s goal against Falkirk, winning the ball back and playing it through to the Alloa striker.
Their additions were confirmed by the club website on Tuesday, July 15.
The club added: “Shay Nevans and Kane Thomson were two standouts in the recent PFA Scotland Exit trial exhibition match where both caught Andy Graham’s eye.
“Nevans, 18, is a former Motherwell youth forward who has featured heavily in the friendlies with eye-catching performances while out on the wing.
"Thomson, 20, was previously at Queen’s Park from the age of 9 and has already shown off his drive with winning a penalty and assisting in recent friendlies.
“Welcome to the Wasps.”
The trio of new signings are expected to be available for Alloa’s opening game of the Premier Sports Cup campaign against East Fife tomorrow evening at 7.45pm.
