THE past week has been a busy one for Alloa Athletic.

Firstly, Alloa carried on their pre-season campaign with a behind closed doors friendly with Clyde.

Youngster Luke Rankin was back on the scoresheet twice, firstly converting a penalty to equalise against the Bully Wee.

He then followed it up by scoring Alloa’s third and final goal to seal off a win against the League Two side, Conor Sammon scoring the other.

The Wasps then travelled to Greenock Morton for a friendly against their upcoming Premier Sports Cup opponents.

The hosts were the victors on the day by just one goal, scored by new signing Owen Moffat.

The two sides will meet again in just a couple weeks’ time for the final match of their Premier Sports Cup group stage.

A fifth and final friendly has also been added to Alloa’s pre-season calendar.

The Wasps will host Cumbernauld Colts at the Recs to round off their non-competitive fixtures, set for Tuesday, July 9.

Further afield, former Wasp Nathan Cannon has found a new club after being released from Alloa last month.

The 18-year-old striker has now signed for League Two side Forfar Athletic. He departed Alloa having made four first team appearances.

Forfar confirmed Cannon’s arrival, stating: “The Loons are delighted to announce the signing of 18-year-old front man Nathan Cannon subject to SFA approval.

“The talented youngster came through the ranks at Alloa Athletic, where he made four first team appearances before heading out on loan to West of Scotland Premier Division side Benburb last campaign.

“The teenage striker has of course already opened his Loons account, rounding off the scoring against Brechin on Saturday past with a well taken finish.

“We look forward to seeing Nathan pull on the sky blue shirt.”
