THE chairman of Alloa Saints FC has reflected on the most successful season in the club’s history as the various teams picked up no less than five trophies over the year.

Various squads under the banner succeeded in their leagues and cup finals, bringing home an impressive five trophies.

This marked the club’s most successful period in their 20 year history, which also included the first league trophies won for Alloa Saints.

The first trophy won last season was by the 2011 Purple squad, who ran out 5-2 winners against Milton to win their respective trophy at Broadwood.

Less than 24 hours later, they returned to Broadwood for the 2011 Black squad win their cup after an impressive 4-1 Monklands.

Chairman Paul Robertson said: “When we started off the competitive season, we never expected to be sitting here with the most amazing trophy haul.

“The joy of seeing and being part of that first trophy win on December 15 at Broadwood is something that will live with me forever.

“To put in so much work over that time to see it come to fruition was incredible and for them to return to the venue less than 24 hours later left myself and others pinching ourselves to see if it was real.”

Shortly after the Christmas break, the 2010 squad was next up to bring home silverware, scoring a last-minute winner to bring home their cup.

Paul added: “That win was no more than manager Steven Boyle deserved having brought together and put so much effort and belief into them, it was a fitting reward.”

The 2011 Black Squad had their eyes set on their league title and knew that a win at Grahamstone would see them crowned champions.

The Black Squad earned themselves a 3-1 win, earning them the title of first league winners in Alloa Saints history.

Lastly, the Black Squad went out one more time at Dunipace at the end of May, sealing a 2-1 win to pick up the last cup and secure five trophies for Alloa Saints.

Paul added: “The squad got one final chance to celebrate with the rest of the Club as over 170 players, plus coaches and helpers headed to the Hollywood Bowl in Stirling for a night of team bonding and bowls and the opportunity for the squads to get their pictures taken with the five trophies.”

The club also placed their thanks to all sponsors who helped the club along the way this season.
