HILLFOOTS VIXENS have been accepted into the Caledonia Midlands/East Region League 2 for the upcoming season.

After forming around nine months ago, the club has been hard at work building a squad and playing friendlies to get match fitness into the team.

Now, they feel they are ready to step into competitive league action, with their acceptance into the league a huge step in their progress.

Christina Swinton, head Vixen with the club, was thrilled that the team is now ready to take their next step in securing their place as a women’s rugby club.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, she said: “This is a huge achievement for everyone involved in the team since forming in September 2023, and is a testament to the commitment from the players and coaching team to get to this point.

“Myself and co-founder/head coach Jordan Usher are over the moon at how quickly the team have progressed.

“We’d like to extend our thanks to all of our sponsors who have been involved since the beginning of this journey: AppiCab, Your Equipment Solutions, Golden Tree Estates, Allanwater Homes, Allan’s Glass and Glazing, Chris Quigley Tattoos and Dollar Beauty.

“Without the support of our sponsors, we wouldn’t be in such a good place.”

The Vixens will now have the rest of summer to prepare for league action, with the first game of the season set for Sunday, September 8 at 2pm.

This will see the team come up against sides teams from Kelso, Bannockburn, Lismore, Dundee, Kirkcaldy, Perthshire and Dunfermline.

The club is also actively recruiting new players, with rugby experience not essential for joining.

Training continues on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and Sunday mornings from 10am to 11.30am.

Girls interested in taking up rugby can also attend the Junior Vixens section, open to all girls aged between 12 and 18.
