SAUCHIE JUNIORS have been accepted back into the Scottish Junior Cup for the upcoming season.

The Clacks side last took part in the 2017-18 edition of the cup and have since been allowed to play in the senior Scottish Cup as part of the East of Scotland League.

The club published a statement on their official social media sites, confirming their involvement and paying thanks to the organisers for their re-acceptance.

Manager Fraser Duncan said: “This is something we’ve been looking at for a few years now, to get ourselves back in the Junior Cup.

“It’s one of those ones where realistically, we’re in the senior cup but are teams like Sauchie ever going to win this?

“It’s never going to happen.

“It gives something to go and push on to win, it would be a great honour to win this or do well in it.

“Always welcome the best of teams, looking forward to it. Delighted to be involved in such a prestigious competition.”

While this will be good news for fans, it will also add in extra fixtures for Sauchie, who already have a pretty congested season.

The addition of the Scottish Junior Cup will join the East of Scotland cups that Sauchie already participate in and will be hoping to progress as far as possible in.

The East of Scotland Premier League is set to recommence at the end of July, with the early rounds of the senior Scottish Cup starting not long after.

Duncan added: “It’s going to be a tough season for the squad, a lot of games involved but I’m sure our boys would prefer to be playing than training.

“We can also look to utilise our under 20s so they’re going to have to be on the ball as they’re going to be involved in a lot of games but it’ll be good progression for them.”

The first round of the Scottish Junior Cup will take place on Saturday, August 31. The draw has not been made yet.
