CALUM WATERS has tipped Alloa for the league as the left back re-signed with his former club.

As reported by Advertiser Sport last week, Waters has become Alloa’s second summer signing, following in the footsteps of Neil Parry who has also re-joined.

Waters initially spent a full season at the Recs in 2016-17, playing a key role in the squad that narrowly missed out promotion.

Now, the left back has urged his side to go one step further and secure promotion this year as he gears up to start pre-season at Alloa.

“There’s no reason why we can’t have a good go at it,” Waters said. “You see the league and I think every other team will be thinking the same.

“Promotion is definitely our ambition this year but we’ll go about our business quietly and see where it takes us.

“I’m hoping to fit in with the boys, I watched a lot of their games last year and they were absolutely brilliant.

“If I can come in here and just help in any sort of capacity, I’ll be happy with that.”

Waters was heavily tipped to re-join Alloa following the announcement he had left Greenock Morton.

As Alloa released Euan Deveney, the left back position was one many fans were keen to see some transfer money thrown towards, particularly with Cammy O’Donnell now given a chance to perform higher up the pitch.

Waters hailed his decision to come back to Alloa as a “no-brainer” and cited the manager Andy Graham as a huge factor in his choice.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” Waters said. “I’ve kept in touch with a lot of the boys from the first time I was here.

“I always met up and had some days out with them so when the opportunity came up, it was the best opportunity for myself.

“It was a no-brainer for me to re sign again.”

Waters continued: “Andy was a massive factor. When I played with him the first time I was here, he was incredible.

“I played right next to him and he showed me the ropes in the game and was a real honest guy and one of the best players I’ve ever played with.

“He had a massive impact, was a good guy to play for so he was a massive factor in signing.”

Waters made his first appearance this season for the first half of the Livingston pre-season friendly, an eventual 2-1 defeat for his side.

He will come up against his former club Morton next week in a friendly, before facing them again in the group stage of the Premier Sports Cup.
