ALLOA have discovered their opponents for this season’s Stirlingshire Cup, the first since 2016.

As announced over the last week, the competition will be returning, with six clubs from across central Scotland invited to take part.

The Wasps will join rivals Stirling Albion, East Stirlingshire, Falkirk, Stenhousemuir and Dumbarton in contesting the cup.

The format now features two groups of three in the first stage, with the winners of each group progressing to a final.

A draw was held at the Stirlingshire FA’s annual general meeting, putting the Wasps into group one alongside Stirling Albion and East Stirlingshire.

Fixture details have also been set, with Alloa playing the Binos at home before making the visit to East Stirlingshire.

These ties are expected to be played by the end of 2024, with the final set to go ahead by the end of March 2025.

Kenny Jamieson, president of the Stirlingshire FA, said: “We’ve been working on resurrecting the Stirlingshire Cup for almost a year now, so it’s very satisfying to have it finally come to fruition.

“The competition is over 140 years old and the trophy itself is quite magnificent.

“We are all really looking forward to a great Stirlingshire Cup competition and wish all six teams the very best of luck.”

The Stirlingshire FA was founded in 1883 and is open to senior clubs in Clackmannanshire, Stirlingshire and Dunbartonshire.

The inaugural competition, held over the 1883/84 season was won by Falkirk, who hold the record for most wins at 32.

Stenhousemuir are the current holders, having won the competition during its last hurrah in 2014/15.

Alloa last tasted victory in 1996/97, seeing out Clydebank in the final 4-3. The Wasps haven't been in the final since 2000/01, losing on penalties after a 2-2 draw with East Stirlingshire.
