ALLOA’S Premier Sports Cup opponents have now been revealed.

The draw was held at 1pm today (Wednesday) and placed the Wasps with four other teams.

Joining them in group F is Premiership outfit St Johnstone, Championship side Greenock Morton, League Two team East Fife and Highland League runners up Brechin City.

While dates and exact fixtures are yet to be revealed, fans can begin to look forward to the match ups for this season’s League Cup campaign.

The four teams Alloa have been drawn against are all familiar to the Wasps, with the Clacks outfit playing against all of them within the last few years, especially in this competition.

For St Johnstone, a reunion with last year’s loan superstar Taylor Steven could be on the cards, with the young winger expected to play more of a role for the Perth side this year.

The two teams last met during the League Cup last season, a 4-0 hammering for Brian Rice’s men at the Recs.

Alloa’s match against Morton will be the second time the two teams meet in July, with a pre-season friendly set to go ahead on July 3 at Cappielow.

The most recent competitive match between the two came in the 1-1 draw during the Wasps’ last season in the Championship in 2021.

Alloa last faced East Fife in the League Cup group stage in 2022, a 1-1 draw that saw the Wasps win on penalties.

This match will be a memorable one for Alloa fans as it featured the debut appearance of Steven Buchanan, who has since gone onto be a reliable option on the wing.

Lastly, they face Brechin City, a team they last went head to head with in the 2021 edition of the League Cup, a 1-0 defeat for the Wasps under Barry Ferguson.

Brechin finished runners up in last season’s Highland League, losing out on a chance at promotion on goal difference.

Both Brechin and champions Buckie Thistle finished on 81 points, with just two goals separating the sides.

Many fans will be optimistic of progressing from this year’s group stage, with many looking to the game against Greenock Morton as the crunch tie for Alloa.
