JON ROBERTSON has left Alloa Athletic, closing the door on an exceptional eight seasons with the Wasps.

He joins four other players confirmed to be leaving the club at the conclusion of the current season, as manager Andy Graham looks to build his squad for the 2024-25 season.

Roberton was initially confirmed to be leaving Alloa last season but returned to complete his recovery from a long-term injury.

The midfielder went onto make eight appearances this season and provided the fans with one final memorable moment in his late winner against Hamilton.

Graham spoke to the club on Robertson’s departure, hailing the example he sets to players around him.

He said: “In particular, I’d like to thank Jon Robertson on behalf of the Alloa board and management team for his efforts over the last eight season.

“From his iconic play off volley against Airdrie to his winner against Hamilton this season, Robbo has been nothing but a fantastic servant to Alloa making over 250 appearances for the club.

“He has been a top professional and a great example to any players around him. Robbo will be a great asset to any team and I wish him all the best.”

Also confirmed to be leaving alongside Robertson are Euan Deveney, Paul McLaren, Nathan Cannon and Keir Burt.

Deveney has been offered physio support and training facilities to help with his rehabilitation from a long-term injury.

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser: BACK-TO-BACK: Ally Roy scored his fourth goal in as many matches to give Alloa two wins in a row.

The left back, signed from Airdrie last summer, suffered an injury to his achilles in January, which has left him sidelined ever since.

McLaren was similar injured, tearing his ACL towards the end of the 2022-23 season, and has spent this season recovering, featuring on the bench against Hamilton and Falkirk.

Cannon made 4 appearances in the early stages of the season before embarking on a loan to West of Scotland Premier Division side Benburb.

Goalkeeper Burt was loaned out to Sauchie Juniors, with the management team there commending him on his first appearance for the club.

Additionally, Alloa’s four loan players – Bobby Wales, Taylor Steven, Ethan Sutherland and Alistair Roy – have all been confirmed to return to their parent clubs.

The four loan players have been exceptional for Alloa, scoring 12, 10, 2 and 5 goals respectively and doing their bit to ensure Alloa made the playoffs.

Wales and Sutherland have been confirmed to be staying at Kilmarnock and St Mirren respectively as they are under contract with their clubs.

Taylor Steven will be returning to St Johnstone, with their squad update yet to come while Ally Roy heads back to East Kilbride.

Graham added: “Again, I’d like to thank all the players for the contribution they made over the season and wish them all the best in the future.”
