FRASER DUNCAN rued cheap goals costing his side three points in the league against Haddington Athletic.
The Reds were looking to carry on momentum from previous results as the season comes to a close, but a poor first half left Sauchie two goals down.
A quick break got Haddington on the front foot before a mistake at the back gifted the visitors a second.
Speaking to the club after the match, Duncan said: “Quite disappointing for ourselves and the management team.
“We spoke to the lads as well about individual mistakes and individual errors.
“We can’t five goals away like that in this league, boys need to learn quickly that they cannot do that.
“It’s a shame because we have been really good the last few weeks at stamping those errors out.
“It’s disappointing but the performance in the first half just wasn’t good enough, we just looked miles off it and looked a bit tired for the first time this season.”
Sauchie managed to pull one back in the second half through Brian Morgan, who fired past the goalkeeper from distance to claw one back for the hosts.
Unfortunately, Sauchie couldn’t find an equaliser, with Duncan left wanting much more from his side.
He continued: “The second half was much better, we went more direct and the boys did what we them to.
“Can’t fault them, they’ve had chances, think we scored a perfectly good goal from the header from Morgy at the corner.
“How Morgy can get up and not touch the goalkeeper as he falls back, takes a swipe at the ball, misses and how it’s a foul on him, I’ll never know.
“Credit to Haddington, they came with a game plan, they did well.
“First half they frustrated us and took their chances and second half they made it very difficult for us, they defended really well.”
Sauchie have just two league matches left this season – against Penicuik and Musselburgh, while also eagerly looking forward to the East of Scotland League Cup fourth round tie against Hill of Beath.
That tie is schedule for Saturday, May 18.
