A SUPERB first half performance saw Sauchie earn three points over Crossgates Primrose, as the Reds have truly hit their form again.
An early goal from Sam Davidson was followed up by a great finish from Mark Smith to send the Reds cruising to three points in Fife.
Assistant manager Darren Cummings praised the boys for their performance, in particular Davidson whose work rate has been a highlight of recent weeks.
Cummings said: “First half, we came out the traps straight away and we played some really good stuff in a really difficult park.
“We knocked the ball about and Sam Davidson got the first goal, he’s been excellent the last couple weeks and has been working really hard.
“We were absolutely delighted for him to get his rewards on Saturday, he caught on a cross, there was a wee stramash in the box, it’s come off the bar and he’s popped up and put it in.
“We were quite settled from there, Mark Smith put in some great pressing and forced them back and then dinked it over the keeper, great finish.”
During the second half, Crossgates found their feet again and pulled a goal back.
But the Reds dug deep and held on to their lead, earning a big three points as they seek to end the league on a high.
Cummings added: “It’s just been one of those games we came out at half time and we didn’t play great football.
“We didn’t really get going in the second half and it was so different from the first half. We got the three points though and that was the main thing.
“Crossgates were pressing but we showed great character and resilience to get the result we wanted.”
Sauchie have received a big boost for next season as midfielder Danny Smith signed a contract extension for the next year.
Smith is just the latest player to sign on for the 2024/25 season, as manager Fraser Duncan assembles his squad for next year.
He said: “I’m delighted to get Danny signed up for another season at Sauchie. He is a superb footballer and has grown in confidence, his game has grown and he keeps improving all the time.
“He’s our penalty king and a huge part of this club, a great lad to have in the changing room.
“Danny’s had a big year, getting married and his football has just kept getting better.”
