HILLFOOTS RFC made the most of the break in competitive competition at the weekend by beating Waid RFC in a friendly.
With no competitive games scheduled for three weeks during Scotland’s November international matches, 'Foots accepted Waid RFC’s offer of a friendly match through in Anstruther.
Ideal for Hillfoots as it provided the opportunity to provide some much-needed game time to players on the fringes of the 1st XV, it gave them a chance to press for inclusion when league fixtures recommence at the end of the month.
A squad of 23 travelled to the East Neuk on a lovely evening for a game of rugby under the Friday night lights.
After receiving the kick off, ‘Foots scored almost straight away through Grant Carmichael. Three further tries were scored in the first half through Duncan Arthur, Alex Cameron and David Cree.
With constant changes and a few players being on limited game time, the second half was a closer affair. Waid came out flying in the second half and scored early out wide. ‘Foots quickly responded through Danny Cockroft after some great offloading.
The home side added two further tries, converting one, in the second half before a blast from the past when Michael Slade, guesting for the evening, touched down from number 8 after a scrum pushover.
The 1st XV will return to action on Saturday, November 27 against Blairgowrie while the 2nd XV travel Howe Crusaders on the same day.
