RETURNING Wasp Pat Scullion admits he had hoped his comeback match for the club would have been in better circumstances as his side crashed to a 3-1 defeat to title rivals Livingston.
The big defender, who re-signed for the club again in the summer, made his first appearance for the club since 2008 when replacing the bloodied Andy Graham just before half time last weekend.
Despite the result, he was delighted to once again pull on the famous Black and gold jersey and now hopes he gets the chance to help Alloa bounce straight back to winning ways against Albion Rovers this weekend.
Scullion told Advertiser sport: "It has been a long time coming in getting on the pitch and with the boys doing so well I have had to bide my time.
"While I was delighted to make my second debut for the club, I am really frustrated by the defeat because I thought we did well for long spells in the game, but we will just have to pick ourselves up and go again.
"Andy seemed ok after the game. It looked pretty bad at first glance as I was close by warming up when it happened. There was a clash of heads and a lot of blood, but thankfully now he seems to be ok. I will just have to wait and see what next week will bring. If Andy is out and I get the opportunity to play then it is up to me to take it.
"I can have no complaints with the form that Jason and Andy have been in this season, so I have had to be patient and be a good team mate. The new manager has been fair with me, so if I get the nod next week then I will be determined to be my best for him."
Scullion has backed former Cowdenbeath team mate Greig Spence to bounce straight back from his miss during the weekend's 3-1 defeat and admits he was disappointed with the manner of the goals they conceded.
He said: "Spencey had a great chance at 0-0 before their opening goal, but you can't blame him for the miss. He has been on fire this season and having played with him at Cowdenbeath last season, I would have put my money on him to score, but unfortunately they don't all go in. It was up to us following that to be resolute, but I think we were unfortunate.
"The first goal is a deflection off of me from a shot that was heading off target. Then the next two goals we could maybe do better, but in fairness to Liam Buchanan his two goals were both great finishes. They had three real chances in the second half and scored from all of them, so that is why it was so frustrating."
The 30-year-old is hopeful the Wee County side can lift themselves quickly from this latest defeat and reckons they are capable of going on another unbeaten run to reignite their season.
Scullion added: "We bounced back well from the defeat to Livingston the last time, so it is important that we focus on doing the same again this time when we face Albion Rovers on Saturday. Our season won't be defined by the games against Livingston because there is 36 games and it is all about who wins the most games. Hopefully, we can lift ourselves now and go on a wee run to put us right back in the driving seat."
