Alloa Lawn Bowls star Rebecca Craig reckons her recent victory in the Commonwealth Invitational Pairs final is up there with the very best achievements in her career.

The Scotland International won the gold medal alongside playing partner Lorraine Malloy after they defeated World Champions Val Smith and Jo Edwards in the final at Kelvingrove last month.

Now the Alloa East End bowler has her sights on further success as she travels stateside to take part in the US Open as well as compete for Scotland in a test match against the USA.

Rebecca told Advertiser Sport, “The win in the final was a great achievement against such high class opposition and was a very nerve racking game for me and my partner with it being so tight all the way to the end.

“The victory certainly ranks right up there with anything I have done prior in my career due to the high caliber of players from all the different country’s that took part.

“I am now really looking forward to the American trip and hopefully can come back from there with another medal and to add another title to my name.” Rebecca is no stranger to success on the lawn and is the current Dutch open Pairs and Mixed rink holder having the titles in 2012 with Laren Bailie from Cockenzie and Port Seaton.

She was also the first Scottish Indoor Champion to come out of Alloa indoor bowling club since 1987 and has represented Scotalnd at the World Cup at Warilla bowling club in Australia where she finished tied for 5th in the World Singles.

Rebecca is also in the Ladies Elite Squad building towards Glasgow 2014 and is now hopeful of maintaining her form in the hope of making the squad for the games.

She added, “ My current format is good I am playing better than ever and hope to keep this going throughout this season and into next which is when we will find out who has been selected.

“It would be a dream come true to play at a commonwealth games.

“To play at a home games in front of all the Scottish fans would be the pinnacle of any sports persons career.

“I hope I can do that and make my family and club proud"
