ANOTHER week and another chance for Alloa Athletic to compete for a trophy - this time the Scottish Communities League Cup.
The Wasps will be hoping to erase the memory of their first competitive defeat under gaffer Paul Hartley's reign.
Alloa went down 5-4 on penalties to league rivals Peterhead after drawing 2-2 at full time in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup.
Speaking after the match, Hartley said, "We want to win every game but, no disrespect to the competition, our main aim this season is without doubt the league. I have stressed that to the players, they know what to expect. The work rate was there, everything was there that we require." This Saturday Alloa face stiffer competition with a first round clash away to First Division side Greenock Morton.
Morton will be buzzing after their eight-goal rout against Stranraer in the Ramsdens Cup with Paul Di Giacomo and Andrew Jackson scoring four goals apiece at Stair Park at the weekend.
In the lead up to the match Hartley further strengthened his squad with two new signings - Stirling Smith and Peter Innes - with more possibly on the cards.
Defender Smith, who started his career with Hartley's old club Aberdeen, had on trial at Alloa.
Before coming to Recreation Park the 20-year-old had loan spells with both Dumbarton and Peterhead. Midfielder Innes joins the club from Motherwell. A former Scotland youth player, the 20-year-old was on loan to promotion-winning Albion Rovers last season.
In addition, Fraser Forrest (27) has returned to the Wasps for the third time.
The defender joined the club in July 2005 from Stenhousemuir but more recently had been playing with Bo'ness Juniors. Last season Wasps manager Allan Maitland brought in the former Berwick Rangers player for a short spell when the club was hit by injury and suspension.
Hartley said, "Although I have brought 18 new players to the club I am still looking and working to add to the squad and bring in more quality.
"I have been looking at all possibilities, looking at all areas, speaking to people I know. I am satisfied with the squad I have got but you always have to be looking ahead in football with injuries and suspensions, so we will still be looking to add to the squad in the coming weeks."
