LAST month SHEARS dropped her debut EP in the form of When You're Around.

The Edinburgh-based songwriter, full name Rebecca Shearing, has been gently honing her craft over the last few years, releasing her first track under the SHEARS name in 2019.

After her debut Circle Line came Just Like You, followed by Ideas, with the song When You're Around completing the EP.

The alt-pop sound is fused with dark undertones as she draws on real life experiences when writing.

Her influences are varied but what tracks speaks to the singer's sinful side?

Here, Shears lays out her 7 Deadly Tunes...

SLOTH – What tune makes you want to sit back and do nothing forever?

Note to Self by Jim E-stack and Empress of. I heard it first while driving and thought how much I loved it on the first listen. I looked it up as soon as I got home and listened again, and now it's on a loop.

WRATH – What tune makes you want to absolutely wreck the hoose?

4am by Grimes. I don't tend to wreck the hoose, but Grimes is such an amazing producer so it's the kind of tune you put on when you want to get somewhere fast. When that beat kicks in!

LUST – What tune do you NEED in your life right now?

Klymaxx by Com Truise. I'm listening to loads of cool producers just now as I'm upping my studio skills at home and he's got some really cool ideas going on in a similar production style to where I want to be. I'm excited for progress and everyone I'm listening to just now is inspiring ideas.

GLUTTONY – What tune can you not get enough of?

I've had Banks' tune Underdog on repeat since it came out in 2017. I've seen her live in Glasgow a few times now, and it's always ace. This track reminds me of being at a gig which I can't wait to get back to! The RAR's throughout are contagious, try to not bark like a dog while listening.

GREED – What tune makes you want to hear more and more from that band?

I heard the song Rue by Girl in Red on the radio the other day and really liked it. She's a cool writer and produces everything at home. It made me want to check out some other tracks.

PRIDE – What tune are you most proud to have written?

I really like the lyrics that I've written in my most recent track When You're Around – "Your words fire fast...and then the lack of them lasts...till the silence has deafened us both...you know we've f***ed it up from here."

To me, they convey the despondency I was feeling while writing it.

ENVY – What tune/chorus/verse/solo/lyric do you wish you had written?

Irreplaceable by Beyonce. Who doesn't sing along to irreplaceable when it comes on?!
