THE winner of a tartan design competition has had his work approved as the Wee County’s official tartan.
The Design a Clackmannanshire Tartan competition was held in schools in the area in 2022, with Ronan Anderson chosen as the winner.
The Dollar Academy pupil's design has now been approved as the district tartan by Clacks Council and has been registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans.
Ronan, 16, received a copy of the registration certificate, awarded to him by Provost Donald Balsillie.
Donald said: Ronan’s tartan design, which includes five colours, was inspired by the Wee County’s geology, wildlife, social history and industrial heritage as well as the county’s crest and was picked unanimously as the winner.

“It was a pleasure to discuss the future plans for the tartan with Ronan and share ideas on its future use.
“It is intended that the Clackmannanshire Tartan is to be put to practical use in the promotion of Clackmannanshire, our culture and products as well as the potential production of tartan products made here.”
The provost has been directly involved with driving forward the Clackmannanshire Tartan project.
The tartan is to be formally launched on April 3 at Alloa Hub, with a permanent exhibition next to the Clackmannanshire Tapestry, coinciding with International Tartan Day on April 7.
Donald continued: “As provost, I also hope to send a Clackmannanshire deputation to Edinburgh on May 10 to represent Clacks in the capital city’s first Tartan Parade on May 10.
“It is hoped to replicate this parade in Alloa on Friday, June 6 when Clackmannanshire will be celebrating our Armed Forces Day.

“I would like to thank all those involved in the Clackmannanshire Tartan project to date – our schools, pupils, competition judges, McCall’s of Tillicoultry, Ceteris and the Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface.
“In particular, the support from CTSI and Ceteris has enabled the tartan to be registered and the commissioning of several metres of the Clackmannanshire Tartan to be handwoven by local business Taffled Threads here in Alloa.”
