THE return of the 1999 Alloa Challenge Cup winning squad event has been cancelled today.
A group of players and some coaching staff were set to return to the Recs to mark 25 years since the Wasps lifted the cup.
Unfortunately, the event has had to be postponed due to extreme weather conditions, with heavy snow and ice falling as a result of Storm Bert.
The event had been organised by John Glencross and Alloa Athletic, with the former announcing the postponement.
He said: "It is with great disappointment that due to heavy snow and travel difficulties, we have had to cancel the 25th anniversary of Alloa Athletic FC winning Bell's Challenge Cup celebrations today.
"We will however reschedule and we will still have the celebration at a later stage at Recreation Park, when fans and players will be able to travel and enjoy in safety."
Alloa lifted the cup on November 21, 1999 following an end-to-end 4-4 draw with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The final would be decided on penalties, with Wasps keeper Mark Cairns scoring one before saving the final spot kick from Caley Thistle.
It had been planned that players were to return to the Recs for a guard of honour and meet and greet session with the fans after the home game against Dumbarton had concluded.
