A TEAM of youngsters from Alloa Academy have been hard at work refurbishing an old nightclub before it reopens as a youth club.

The Wasp Community Club are currently undertaking a project to reopen the former Klub21 site on Mill Street in the town to help reduce anti-social behaviour in Alloa.

The project is headed by Tony McMinn, who has gathered a group of high school pupils to help carry out work inside the club before opening day.

He is joined by Kian, Caiden, Brandon, Brandon, Leon, Connor, Kenzie and Leighton - with the boys speaking to the Advertiser about the work they're doing.

Caiden said: "I was in school when Tony came in and he brought it up to us. We got picked for it.

"We used an app called Home Designer and we made a model of this place."

The group got to design their own youth clubs using the Home Designer app, giving them the chance to have their say on what the site can include.

"We've been painting and redecorating the place," Kian added. "We've got our own ideas about what we're going to do with it.

"We came up with names and ideas for the youth club. We’re going to turn it into a gym some days and on Fridays, it’s going to be a youth club."

The Wasp Community Club had started the project to provide a space for young people to spend time at.

This was driven forward to try and reduce levels of anti-social behaviour in the town and in schools.

The group of young people that have contributed to the refurbishment of the site will form a committee for The Hive, helping to suggest new ideas for the club.

Kian said: “We’re wanting to see darts boards, pool tables, PlayStations – stuff for kids our age to do and stay out of trouble in the town.

“We’re looking for things to entertain ourselves so that we’re staying out of trouble. This keeps us from getting into trouble at school.”

The club has  proven popular with the group in refurbishing it, with some already looking ahead to it opening.

Caiden added: "My pals and I will come down and get a game of pool."
