A TULLIBODY nursery has become the first in Forth Valley to be graded a Rights Respecting School Gold award.

Glenview Nursery has achieved the accolade following a campaign of hard work to inform their pupils of their rights.

The nursery has worked hard to move up in the rankings of the scheme, and wanted to thank all parents for their support.

Heather O'Hagan, owner and manager of Glenview, said: “The journey that we’ve been on for a few years has seen us get bronze, silver and now gold.

“It’s been a really successful journey for the nursery to go on. It’s been wonderful watching the children learn.

“The parents have been so supportive and the feedback they gave us on our inspection was so lovely."

Glenview have been focusing on ensuring their pupils know their rights and are able to speak out if they feel they can make a change.

Among their work to qualify for gold, the kids wrote to Clackmannanshire Council to request that the road outside the nursery be repainted.

This was an example of the kids exercising their right to be safe, with the council responding quickly and showing them that change can be made.

Heather continued: “The work we’ve done has been embedded into Glenview and the children all use rights respecting language with each other and so do the staff.

“Our wonderful little global citizens know all about being global citizens and we’ve done lots of work locally.

“We want to show the children that they have a voice and can make changes.”

Glenview will now be inspected every three years to ensure they are still compliant with Rights Respecting Schools gold status.

Heather added: “It’s just about continuing that on but it won’t be hard because it’s so embedded in Glenview now.

“I’ve no doubt that the staff will continue the learning and they’ve been amazing which is one of the ways we’ve been successful.”
