AN ALLOA childminder is promoting her career path as part of National Careers Week.
Scottish Careers Week will be running from Monday, November 11 to Friday, November 15 and aims to champion the work that childminders carry out.
As part of the campaign, the Programme for Scotland’s Childminding Future (PSCF) are looking to promote the career and attract people to the business.
Promoting the career is Jane McMillan, from Alloa, who has worked as a childminder for just under a decade.
“I’ve been childminding for seven years,” she said. “I started my business out of practicality.
“I previously worked full time in retail and my two daughters went to a childminder.
“When she moved onto another role and I couldn’t find any other childcare for my daughters, I decided to become a childminder myself.
“I take pride in my service and I want the best for the children. I love my job and would recommend it to anyone thinking about doing it – go for it.”
The PSCF, funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by the Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA), offer a support package of a £750 start-up grant.
They also provide training and one-to-one support for people looking to begin their careers in childminding.
