ALLOA ATHLETIC’S women’s team scaled one of Scotland’s most picturesque Munros last weekend, raising funds for a vital cause.

Members of the team, alongside coaches Allan Milne, Ryan Cairney and Shaun Mcerlane, climbed Ben Lomond to show support for Heart of the Game.

This charity is a venture launched by lifelong Alloa fan Kieren Mooney, who this winter is hosting a charity match in memory of his mum.

To do their part, the women’s team climbed Ben Lomond on Sunday, November 3, with manager Allan proud of the team despite the sore legs.

He said: “The girls really enjoyed it, loved it, had such a good time and it was a really good group who went.

“They all really motivated each other and helped each other so it was a really good day, we spent about 30 minutes at the top relaxing and having a good time.

“The body is feeling a bit tender and sore today, I’ll never be doing that again but it was for a good cause.”

Heart of the Game was originally launched by Kieren in 2019 to raise funds for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland.

He organised a charity match at the Recs featuring friends, family and colleagues which raised an impressive amount for the organisation.

His mum Louise passed away shortly after and now Kieren is back hosting another match next month in her memory, this time with all proceeds going to the Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).

“We’re hoping that we can highlight that and promote that it’s okay to talk and speak to people.

“It’s okay to not be okay and we want to raise awareness that there’s people you can speak to like SAMH who are doing a wonderful job in trying to combat it.”

Kieren’s match will be going ahead at the Recs on Saturday, December 21, while Alloa’s men’s team are away to Cove Rangers.

He added: “I’m extremely grateful to Allan, Ryan, Shaun and the women’s team for taking on this challenge for Heart of the Game.

“It means so much to me and everyone involved in the campaign, it’s great to see so many people coming together for the cause.

“This is an example of Alloa as a community club and everyone pulling in the right direction.

“It’s a great achievement and myself and everyone are very grateful and thankful to them for taking on this challenge.”
