LUCKY kids at a Wee County library got to experience the last Princess Poppy event from a popular children’s author.

Janey Louise Jones visited the Dumyat Centre on Wednesday, October 16 to surprise the children there, some of whom were fans of her work.

Known for her Princess Poppy books, Janey arrived at the Dumyat Centre dressed as the titular character from her stories, speaking with the kids about a range of topics including the environment and ecosystems.

“It went really well,” she said. “People were really happy during the event and everyone’s told us it was a lovely time.

“Children enjoyed learning about the importance of bees and their lifecycle, playing games of giant nature snap and memory games of what was in Princess Poppy’s bag.

“In her books, she made Princess Poppy an eco-warrior so she’s teaching them about the environment as well.”

The idea to invite Janey in for an author session came after the Dumyat Centre received a donation of some of her books.

“It really was special to know that it was the last one. A big thanks goes to the community for coming along, it was really well attended.”
