A FOURTH fan enclosure has been approved for Alloa Athletic Football Club, completing the ground.

The club submitted an application in August requesting permission to build a steel enclosure at the railway end of the ground at Recreation Park.

The proposals put forward plans to construct a covered standing section behind the goals at the ground, allowing fans to access that part of the park.

These have now been approved by Clackmannanshire Council’s Planning Department, allowing Alloa to build a fourth enclosure at the ground within the next five years.

The Advertiser spoke with Alex Brown, operations manager with Alloa Athletic, who outlined the desire for the club to complete the ground with the addition of a fourth enclosure.

Currently, a telecommunications mast resides in the far back corner of the ground, which Mr Brown explained restricted the club's plans to build a stand and connected media centre.

He said: "We know that they're severely restricted just now but everything needs to be in place.

"We fully intend to develop that end of the ground but the [telecommunications] mast is severely restricting our opportunity to do that.

"We're in discussion with the people who have the mast to say we would like to come to a possible re-siting arrangement to allow us to develop that end of the ground."

Mr Brown then added that if a stand was to be built there, that would restrict vehicular access to the mast in its current position.

He added: "Once we get that solidified, we would be going ahead with the project.

"We are in negotiation with the mast people for a possible re-siting but it is our full and clear intention to build."

Fans being able to stand behind the goals at the railway end of the ground has been a topic of contention in recent months.

At a recent Q&A session for Alloa season ticket holders, fans voiced their interest to stand behind the railway end of the club.

Stewards would need to be present to monitor fans should they be granted access behind the goals.

The club originally put in a planning application in 2019 to construct a fourth enclosure at the ground, but this expired this year.
