A DOLLAR man is hoping to provide a little light holiday reading with the release of his newest book on marine life.

Keith Broomfield, who is also the Alloa Advertiser's On the Wildside nature columnist, unveiled his latest work earlier this month.

The book – A Snorkeller's Guide to the Mediterranean – is the culmination of more than 40 years of research by Keith and is an easy-to-use identification guide on marine life, aimed specifically at holiday snorkellers.

Published by Pelagic Publishing, it includes all the eye-catching species of fish and other marine life most likely to be encountered when on a holiday snorkel in the Mediterranean.

In fact, some tips are provided on how to enjoy snorkelling and benefit from seeing as wide a range of species as possible.

Although the book concentrates on shallow-water sea life, it also delves into some of the denizens of deeper water.

Keith said: "I'm thrilled to have written this new book, which is the perfect holiday companion for those visiting the Mediterranean and who enjoy a wee snorkel and want to gain an insight into some of the amazing marine life found in the region."

As well as Keith's weekly column for the Advertiser, he has written three other books, including If Rivers Could Sing, A Scottish Wildlife Odyssey and Wild Quest Britain.

His first book, If Rivers Could Sing, focuses on a wildlife year on the River Devon in Clackmannanshire, and was short-listed in the Saltire Book Awards.

Keith, is also a trustee of the Forth Rivers Trust and editor/board member of the Forth Naturalist & Historian.

His next book – Wild Edinburgh – will be published early next year and is a guide on the best spots in Scotland's capital city to see wildlife.
