A COUPLE who met at an Alloa pub decades ago celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last week.
James and Jane Docherty marked their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday, October 10, surrounded by friends and family.
The couple first met at James’ 21st birthday party at the Royal Oak in Alloa, finding himself with a spare invitation to hand out.
He decided to let his friend Julia bring a plus one, who went on to bring Jane, bringing the couple together for the first time.
They shared their first kiss in the Royal Oak, beginning a lifelong commitment to one another and going on to get married on October 10, 1964.
Originally from Coalburn, James moved to Tullibody when he was seven years old, while Jane was from Lesmahagow.
The pair would get married at Abbeygreen church in Lesmahagow before relocating to Alloa to settle down.
Finally, they moved to a house in Tullibody where they welcomed the birth of their two children Jill and Colin.
From there, they now have a bustling family, including four grandchildren, one great grandchild and two great grand puppies.
To celebrate their special day, they had a surprise party thrown for them at the Oakwood Hotel on Saturday, October 12.
In addition, the happy couple also received their card from the king congratulating them on a successful 60 years of marriage.
