HOMES in Kincardine that have been without gas supplies overnight due to a "significant gas leak" are now being reconnected, according to Scottish Gas Network (SGN)

SGN confirmed that on Tuesday, due to damage to their gas network, over 1,000 homes in the Kincardine area were without gas. 

Engineers are now visiting homes reconnecting gas supplies and carrying out essential safety checks. 

Graeme Downie, MP, shared on social media on Wednesday morning that he has spoken with SGN and the Energy Minister, Michael Shanks. 

He wrote: "I have spoken with SGN again this morning along with Energy Minister, Michael Shanks. Here is the latest I have been told which includes the good news that SGN expects to start restoring customers supply late this afternoon.

"I have included the full update below: 'On Tuesday 15 October, there was a loss of gas supply to 1,441 customers.

"The impacted area is within SGN’s area following a significant gas leak which was caused by suspected asset failure and resulted in a loss of pressure in the local network. The cause of the asset failure is still being investigated by SGN.

"Customer supplies were disconnected so that the damage to the network could be repaired while maintaining the safety of the gas network.

"All customers have now been safely isolated from the network by engineers but are all currently still off supply.

"SGN expects to start restoring customers late afternoon Wednesday 16 October as the leak has now been repaired. SGN is developing a plan for getting customers back on supply, we will receive an update on restoration plans this afternoon.

"In the early hours of Wednesday 16 October, a temporary repair was made on the network preventing the escape of any more gas and restoring pressure in the network. SGN have determined that it is safe to begin restoring customers while a permanent repair is made to the network.'"

SGN has asked that those affected do not try and turn back on their own gas supply. 

This morning they said: "There are approximately 30 homes which we've not been able to gain access to. It's really important that we get access as soon as possible, to turn off their gas supplies at the meter. We are re-visiting these properties this morning. 

"If you were out when our engineer tried to visit, please call us on 0800 912 1717 and we will quickly re-visit you."

While their latest update said: "Please do not try to turn your gas supply back on yourself. We know it is frustrating to be without your gas supply, but it's important you wait for an engineer to visit. 

"If you're out when we try to visit you, we'll leave a card with information on ways to contact us to re-arrange a visit quickly. 

"Our Customer Service Team will be at the Community Centre all day should you need any support or have questions.

"Thank you for your continued patience and understanding, it's greatly appreciated."

SGN will post an update on their progress at around 5:30 pm today.
