A TRAVELLERS camp which had been set up in Kincardine has been moved on.
Reports of a gypsy/traveller camp had been made to Sam Steele, councillor for West Fife Coastal Villages.
Concerns were lodged after the camp had been established on allegedly private land on Standalane in the town.
Cllr Steele shared the concerns on her Facebook page, confirming she had contacted Fife Council for advice on the situation.
She received a reply from the safer communities lead officer and the traveller team at the council, who said action would be taken on a case by case basis.
The response stated: “Gypsy/travellers often travel for part of the year as part of their culture. Under the Equalities Act 2010, they are protected as an ethnic group and are protected from discrimination.
“However, Fife Council do have expectations for their behaviour and choice of site locations which should be suitable.
“While a site exists, our team will remain in contact with the visitors and request the removal of any household rubbish on their behalf.”
Fife Council then made a visit to the site on Monday, October 7 to speak with the travellers there and assess if the camp had been made on public land.
The Advertiser contacted Fife Council for the outcome of this visit, with the team there confirming that the gypsy/travellers had been moved on.
