A THUG who struggled with a supermarket security guard and threatened to stab a police officer has been jailed.
Steven Brolly, 24, was refused entry to Tesco in Alloa, Clackmannanshire after turning up drunk.
The incident happened at 9pm on July 30, Alloa Sheriff Court was told on Monday, October 14.
Prosecutor Sean Iles said that a member of the security team at the store heard “shouting and swearing” outside and saw Brolly walking towards the store.
Mr Iles said: “He tried to enter, was refused entry, and began to struggle with the member of the security team.
“Police were called, attended shortly, and he was placed in the rear of a police vehicle.
“Whilst on route to Falkirk police station, he made comments towards police officers such as 'you're a b*****d, I'll stab you, skinny c**t'.”
On arrival at the custody suite, he continued to shout and swear, then spat, resulting in a spit hood being placed on him.
At this point he was searched, and a black-handled serrated steak knife was found in his jacket pocket.
Brolly, of Alloa, pleaded guilty to possession of the knife and statutory breach of the peace.
Solicitor Kelly Howe, defending, said that at the time, Brolly had been drinking following the death of a relative, to whom he had been “particularly close”.
Miss Howe said he didn't remember the events, and did not know why the steak knife had been in his pocket.
She said: “His auntie had passed away and he was heavily involved in trying to blank out the negative emotions associated with that by consuming a considerable quantity of alcohol.”
The court heard Brolly had four previous convictions for possession of a knife. He also had an additional conviction for possession of an offensive weapon.
Jailing him for eight months, Sheriff Neil Bowie said: “This is an extremely serious offence involving a threat to stab, from someone who had a knife in his pocket.”
Brolly showed no emotion as he a led from the dock to the cells.
