AN ALLOA man has been handed a driving ban after hitting more than 100mph near the Clackmannanshire Bridge.
“Silliness” was the explanation put forward by 44-year-old George Docherty when he appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court.
Docherty, of Ormiston Drive, admitted that on August 10 on the A876 near the Clackmannanshire Bridge, he drove a car at 101mph.

Depute fiscal Sean Iles said the incident took place at around 2pm and Docherty’s car was caught by a speed camera in a marked vehicle in a 60mph limit.
Docherty, a warehouse operative, was representing himself and when asked to explain the speeding replied, “Just silliness”.
Sheriff Neil Bowie told Docherty he had put other road users in danger. He imposed a five-month driving ban and a £640 fine.
