A TILLICOULTRY man, whose car was involved in a high-speed chase with police, has been banned from the roads.

The pursuit was ended because of safety concerns and Marc Richardson later refused to say who had been driving.

That led to a disqualification for 24-year-old Richardson, of Upper Mill Street, when he appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on August 7 he failed to provide the identity of the driver of his car to police as required by law.

Depute fiscal Sean Iles said that at 4am on July 23, police officers on patrol saw the car being driven erratically and at excessive speeds in Alva.

The police car went in pursuit but was unable to continue with the chase because of the dangers involved.

When Richardson was later questioned by police as the owner of the vehicle, he refused to identify who was driving, saying: “No comment”.

Defence solicitor Michael Lowrie said: “He thought he could refuse to comment and that is perhaps down to ignorance of the law or immaturity.”

Sheriff Neil Bowie imposed a six-month driving ban and a £320 fine.
