CLACKS COUNCIL is hoping to shed a light on the impact of poverty during a national awareness campaign this week.

Local partners will join forces with the council during Challenge Poverty Week, which began on Monday, October 7.

Throughout this week, the council will be aiming to raise awareness of the impacts of poverty in the Wee County, while also promoting the services and support networks available to those in need.

Cllr Ellen Forson, council leader and chair of the Clackmannanshire Alliance, said: “Poverty can have a devastating effect on lives, forcing difficult sacrifices in order just to get by.

“Some families remain caught in a cycle of poverty, which is only made worse by the rising cost of living.

“We remain committed to ending the injustice of poverty across Clackmannanshire and want to see communities where everyone can achieve their potential, regardless of their background.”

The council will be holding drop-in events and advice sessions on how to maximise income, energy and housing support.

Community cafes will also be open, as well as breakfast clubs to combat the rising risk of food poverty.

A roundtable discussion on challenging poverty has also been organised to bring together local leaders to look at next steps for taking action in Clacks.

Cllr Forson added: “I am pleased to bringing together local partners at the Roundtable event to assess our progress in the ongoing fight against poverty, and where we should be focusing our attention going forward to make the most impact.

“I hope residents will also become involved in the activities taking place locally to find out more about the help and support available in our communities.”

Information on drop-in events can be found on Clackmannanshire Council social media channels and website.
