A STIRLING man has been left stranded abroad after suffering a medical emergency, with his family calling for help to get him home.
Bob Carrick took unwell while on holiday in Turkey on September 21, suffering from internal bleeding and requiring to be operated on.
Following the operation, he encountered further complications and has since been told he is in heart failure.
His family have been left with staggering bills to cover medical costs and are now appealing for assistance in getting Bob back home to them.
A fundraiser has been launched by Christine Young, who is calling on anyone who donate to help them cover costs for a medical flight for Bob.
Speaking on the page, she said: “This is the last thing we as a family wanted to do – many people know Bob is a proud man and would never ask but we need your help.
“Bob is currently in hospital in Turkey, he was admitted with internal bleeding, had an operation for this and he has since been readmitted on September 28 and Claire has been told he is in heart failure.
“To date, they have paid over £26,000 for hospital fees while the insurance drags their heels, and have no money to spare.
“Our only option now is to get our own medical assisted flight home which has been quoted as just over £45,000.
“I know it’s a lot to ask, and I wouldn’t if it was our only choice. If you can’t donate, please feel free to offer advice or share.”
Since going live, the fundraiser has taken off and has now attracted £11,286 at the time of writing.
This has smashed their initial target of £10,000, with Christine going on to thank generous funders for their help.
She added: “We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who has donated so far to help us bring Bob home safely.
“We still have a long way to go, and we kindly ask that you share this fundraiser with your own networks to help us reach more people who may want to contribute.
“Every donation and share gets us one step closer to getting Bob the care he needs.
“Thank you again for all your support during this challenging time.”
